THE SOUL FELT ITS WORTH

During a previous holiday season, I stood in the midst of a minister’s fellowship enjoying a night of tasty delights, hot coffee and sweet sharing with other pastors in our area.  Later in the evening, the group gathered together to enjoy singing a few Christmas Carols.  We sang together, some of us louder than others.  I don’t sing very well, so I didn’t mind just holding the list of carols while glancing over the lyrics.  On the page were listed the words to Oh Holy Night.  Suddenly, it was like I had never heard the song before as everyone sang out “Long lay the world in sin and error pining,: 'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.”  The soul felt its worth!

As the song continued, “A thrill of hope”, thoughts of God’s love for all the world begin to fill my mind and heart.  I contemplated about how many of us in this world have actually had our souls feel its worth.

John 3:16 says it the clearest, “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him would not perish, but have everlasting life.”  In sending His only son to die in our place, God told us that there is no trouble too great, no suffering too severe, no labor too hard, no expense too large, no valley too deep, in comparison to the value of a soul.  It’s time we give up the litany of personal faults swirling in our heads.  Ask yourself: has your soul felt its worth? You ARE valuable!! No matter where you are or what you've done! He Loves YOU!  Let the weary world rejoice at this news.
